Description

Get away from it all in this characterful period cottage in the heart of the County Sligo countryside. The cottage, which suits couples and small families, enjoys a peaceful, rural location and you’ll find numerous walking routes directly from the front door. The bustling seaside village of Strandhill is 6 miles away, as is the historic town of Sligo.

The 200-year-old, stone cottage is set on a working farm, surrounded by open countryside. The property has a home-away-from-home vibe with plenty of creature comforts, and the decor is fun with colourful paintwork and an eclectic mix of soft furnishings and accessories. The cosy lounge is an inviting space after a day of adventure, with a collection of plush seating set around a fabulous open fire. There’s also a sweet dining table and a TV/DVD for enjoying movie nights together. The separate kitchen is bright and airy, thanks to dual-aspect windows, and has an elegant Belfast sink and all the equipment needed for a self-catering holiday. The pretty bedroom has a double and a single bed, along with a refreshing en-suite bathroom. Outside, soak up the fresh, countryside air in the charming cottage garden, where you’ll find a patio area for al fresco dining.

The seaside village of Strandhill is bursting with independent cafes and restaurants, many of which serve delicious, fresh seafood. The shopping here is also excellent, particularly at the weekend market where you can pick up handmade goods and local produce. The village has a spectacular sandy beach and is considered one of Sligo’s top surfing spots (you’ll find several local companies offering lessons). There are some fantastic coastal walks from the village, following the Wild Atlantic Way, or you can take on the dizzying heights of nearby Knocknarea or Benbulben, both within 20 miles.
