County Cork cottages
We have a significant number of holiday cottages in County Cork for you to choose from. As the largest of the 32 counties, Cork offers a wealth of holiday opportunities, from exploring the wild west coast, to discovering the fascinating history of Cork city. Many of our coastal cottages can be found in Cork, as well as many of our dog-friendly accommodation, and visitors will be pleased to know that Cork is a pet-friendly region, particularly when it comes to the countryside walks on offer.
Cork is known as the Rebel County, which is often attributed with its rebellious sons, including Michael Collins, who led the Irish Independence movement in the 20th century, but it dates to the Tudor era, when Henry VII gave the county the name after local support for the Warbeck rebellion of 1491. The county’s rebellious spirit can be felt throughout Cork and is even echoed in the rugged coastal landscape that looks out onto the Atlantic.
Cork city is Ireland’s third largest city and is home to a large array of historic attractions. Its most famous landmark is Blarney Castle, home to the famous Blarney Stone which is said to give all those who kiss it ‘the gift of the gab’. The English Market is another famous Cork city attraction and has hundreds of stalls selling fresh, local produce and a range of bars and restaurants so you can either stop there to eat, or pick up fresh supplies to cook up your own feast when you get home.
A day trip out to Spike Island, 150m off the coast of Cork Harbour, is also a highlight of any holiday to County Cork. The island has a rich history, stretching back 1,300 years and is now home to a museum that showcases the island’s many phases, including its time as a Republican prison, a military fort and even a 7th century monastery.
West Cork is one of the most picturesque sections of Ireland, running from Kinsale to Dursey Island at the top of the Beara Peninsula. Picturesque Kinsale is known as the gourmet capital of Ireland and is renowned for its bohemian lifestyle, friendly faces and pretty views – it was even voted Ireland’s most beautiful village by Conde Nast magazine.
Cork certainly isn’t short of things to see and do, and when you book a holiday cottage with us, we’re sure the combination of a great holiday home and the surroundings will make for a holiday to remember.
