County Clare cottages
Our self-catering cottages in County Clare present you with the perfect opportunity to explore one of Ireland’s most scenic regions.
Clare’s unique landscape has been shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, whose rough waves have helped shape this mighty county’s rugged and rare coastline. County Clare is home to one of the Irish Atlantic Coast’s most famous landmarks, the Cliffs of Moher. These impressive cliffs rise 700 feet above sea level and are an absolute must for any holiday in Clare, or the West Coast at large. Be sure to check out our coastal cottages and Wild Atlantic Way cottages to see our full range of holiday homes on the West Coast.
A couple of miles away from the Cliffs of Moher, you'll find an amazing Karst limestone region called the Burren, which features caves, underground streams and rare alpine flora. The Burren is totally unique in Europe and this vast limestone area is a haven for botanists, archaeologists and speleologists.
The rest of the county offers an infinite variety of scenery, with the sandstone uplands of Slieve Callan, the lowland region covered by a complex system of lakes and to the east the Cratloe Hills, Slieve Barnagh and the Slieve Aughty mountains which tower above Lough Derg and the River Shannon. Clare’s hills and lakes offer lots of dog-walking opportunities and if you are interested in bringing your pooch along, why not take a look at our range of pet-friendly cottages?
A county of varied and beautiful scenery, Clare is noted for its antiquities and historical connections. Clare is home to 190 castles, 150 ancient churches, 3 cathedrals and 2,300 stone or earthen forts – quite the collection of historic sites!
Charming villages like Doolin, Fanore and Ennistymon are famed for their traditional music sessions, attracting visitors from Ireland, Britain and across the world. In these villages, you won’t find yourselves short of pubs, restaurants, cafes and local shops to keep you fed, watered and entertained.
So if you’re looking to get a real sense of Ireland, from its history to its impressive natural beauty, a holiday in County Clare is an excellent choice.
