Description
This appealing cottage with a jetty and boat moored on a fishing lake in the garden offers a peaceful retreat for a group of family or friends seeking to explore this unspoiled corner of County Leitrim. The property sleeps six guests and is within 3.5 miles of lively Ballinamore, a small town with a marina on the Shannon-Erne waterway. The gentle, lake-studded landscape is perfect for fishing trips and boating, along with wonderful walks, cycle trails and horse riding.
This waterside property is traditionally furnished, with a lovely, homely atmosphere. A bright entrance hall leads to the lounge, with comfortable seating and an open fire set in a charming period fireplace. The spacious, L-shaped kitchen/diner houses a well-equipped, country-style kitchen and dining table. Upstairs, find the well-appointed family shower room and three pretty bedrooms - a double with an en-suite shower room, and two welcoming twins. Outside, a delightful garden with outdoor furniture leads to a private jetty and boat, while a shared, converted granary provides a storage/drying area for outdoor equipment and life jackets, with a games room on the first floor.
Ballinamore has a raft of great pubs and restaurants and is home to the Glenview Folk Museum. Enjoy a glimpse of life in 1930s rural Ireland with domestic and farmyard exhibits from eggcups to scythes. Follow the scenic walking trail around the shore of Lough Garadice (8 miles), and the tranquil former railway line from Ballinamore to Corgar Green way (1.5 miles). Bustling Carrick-on-Shannon (14 miles) has a colourful marina offering cruises down the beautiful river and boats for hire. Explore the county town’s fine, Georgian buildings and visit the quaint Costello Chapel, said to be one of the smallest of its kind in the world.
