Description

This beautifully restored traditional Kerry Farmhouse is a perfect hideaway for friends and families seeking a relaxing holiday in County Kerry. Set on its own immediately above Lough Currane it offers panoramic views of mountains all round and over the Lough to the sea at Ballinskelligs Bay. Crystal clear lake-water swimming, hill walking and trekking are on the doorstep. Within the house the large sitting room has exposed ceiling beams, a stone-feature fireplace, windows all round, deep comfortable sofas and easy chairs to relax in after a long walk. An ‘ante’ room provides a separate area for laptops, games and cards. The spacious dining/sun-room has chairs in the bay window for reading/relaxing, a long farmhouse style table enables lingering over meals and there is a piano for a musical evening . The well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room has everything needed for meals at home. There is a downstairs bathroom/WC and a separate shower room.

Upstairs the largest bedroom has a king size bed and views looking west towards Waterville, a second good sized bedroom with en-suite bathroom has two single beds, and a third smaller double bedroom looks over the lake. A separate ‘family’ shower/WC bathroom is shared. Also upstairs is the study/playroom with a huge round window looking south up to the hill behind the house.

Outside a small patio (folding chairs provided) and enclosed grass area offer a safe space for small children to play or for coffee lovers to sit in the morning sun. On the west side of the western shed is the perfect spot for watching the sunset, drink in hand, seated on a long piece of granite rock straight out of the ground.
Food shopping is a short drive along the lake road to Waterville, 5.6 kms/3.5 miles away. Waterville also boasts one of Ireland’s top rated golf links with a club-house restaurant and sea views to die for. Sandy beaches, scuba diving and horse-riding opportunities are within easy further reach. If you fancy local exploration, try Derrynane (16 kms/10 miles) to see the ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell (Irish politician and statesman) and then go walking and/or swimming on Derrynane’s child-friendly sandy beaches. Or go west for the surfing waves of St. Finan’s Bay (29kms/18 miles) and the high Kerry cliffs for birdwatching and enjoying the incredible coastal views. If the sea is sufficiently calm, take a boat trip from Port Magee to Skellig St. Michael to see thousands of puffins, climb the steep steps to the beehive huts at the top and take in the views.

Location

Reviews

Raheen is a lovely, charming and spacious house in an absolutely stunning location. The endlessly changing weather over Lough Currane and the wild beauty of the valley make this a very special place. Very well equipped kitchen, and loads of books. The piano is a well-tuned bonus!

Mr F,

It should be made clear that the road up to the property is very narrow with a sheer drop into water on one side.I have a fear of heights and would not have booked im the first place if I had known this. There are sheep all around the property as the farmer does not close the gates off everywhere was covered in faeces my partner has a brand new van which was damaged by the sheep scratching off it and ramming horns into it .,,we were also in the property when the farmer walked in on top of us he had also been in when we were out for the day as lights we knew we had turned off we’re back on.
