Description
This characterful retreat for couples or a small family enjoys a peaceful location on the picturesque Sheep’s Head Peninsula. The area is a haven for walkers, with wild and rugged walks along the coast to explore, as well as tranquil rambles through the surrounding countryside. The cottage is 18 miles from the harbour town of Bantry.
The delightful, first-floor accommodation is reached via a few stone steps. Inside, the apartment offers a stylish retreat tucked amongst the trees, with original features sitting alongside contemporary furniture and colourful soft furnishings. The main living area is a light-filled lounge/kitchen/diner with beautiful wooden floorboards. To the rear of the room is a colourful kitchen area for whipping up tasty treats, which you can share at the cute dining table. After dinner, sink into one of the sumptuous seats to watch the TV/DVD. When it’s time for bed, retire to the charming bedroom, with its striking exposed beams and whitewashed walls. A refreshing shower room completes the accommodation, and you’ll find a handy utility room on the ground floor. Please be aware that the property has sloping ceilings and restricted head height in some areas. From the lounge area, glass doors open onto a raised decked area with outdoor furniture. Steps lead down from here to a traditional orchard.
Kilcrohane (3 miles) is a quaint, friendly village with a good range of places to eat, as well as shops and markets selling handmade crafts and local produce. Just outside the village is the secluded cove of Tra Ruaim – this is one of County Cork’s hidden gems and is a lovely spot for a wild swim or peaceful picnic. The Sheep’s Head Way passes through the village, and there are also numerous circular loops from the village offering spectacular views of Bantry and Dunmanus Bay.
