Description

Nestled in the mountains of East Cavan, this countryside bungalow on the outskirts of Bailieborough town is an excellent dog-friendly getaway for a family or group of friends seeking a tranquil break in nature while being close to plenty of amenities. This three-bed property boasts traditional cottage interiors with an exposed stone fireplace and a farmhouse-style kitchen, plus a pretty lawned garden encased by shrubs and hedges.

Step inside and find yourself in the elegant and bright open-plan kitchen/diner with a farmhouse-style fitted ‘L’-shaped unit with wooden worktops and white cabinets. In the centre of the room is a matching dining table. Continue into the comfortable lounge with antique ornaments, an eye-catching exposed stone fireplace and a characterful detailed wood burner. This space is decorated in neutral tones, plus wooden furnishings. Completing the interior is a family bathroom and three bedrooms – two doubles, one with an en-suite, and a twin room. Outside is a spacious, partially enclosed garden with a patio area, furniture, and a BBQ. At the bottom of the garden is a trickling stream.

During your stay in County Cavan, you’ll be just 1 mile from the market town of Bailieborough where you can stop for a bite to eat at a local restaurant or cafe, browse the shops and stroll around the lake. Put on your hiking boots and follow the walking trails through Bailieborough Demesne (2 miles) or around the Castle Lake Walks (3.5 miles) – where you can also enjoy a spot of fishing. Disappear into the Moyer mountains and visit the Loughanleagh and Muff Heritage Trust (5.5 miles).

Location

Reviews

As the only cottage listed in this area we return each year. There is only one other, more modern house (and cheaper!) in Cavan but it is over at Belturbet so not the area we want (fishing, seeing friends). The cottage is warm and comfortable. Its location is good, quiet, near a town with all amenities and within reach of sites like Newgrange and Boyne valley. Even lively Westport is just 2 hours away.
